Chennai, September 14, 2026: A 13 member media delegation from Jammu and Kashmir, organised by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), Srinagar, visited the Dakshina Chitra Heritage Museum at Muttukadu, Tamil Nadu, on Monday as part of the press tour being conducted by PIB Srinagar from September 13 to 19.
The delegation was briefed about the museum and its heritage structures by curator Lakuma Chebrolu. She explained the architectural features of the traditional homes preserved at the museum and provided information about the different regional styles represented there.
The museum houses reconstructed traditional heritage homes from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala. The delegation was informed that the houses were carefully dismantled and reconstructed at the site with the involvement of regional artisans and traditional master builders.
The visiting media delegation also explored the traditional streetscapes and living environments recreated at the museum, providing an insight into the architectural and cultural traditions of the southern states.
Shri Sharath Nambiar, Director, Dakshina Chitra, interacted with the delegation and briefed them about the history of the museum and its role in preserving India’s tangible and intangible cultural heritage. He also highlighted the support extended by the Government, particularly the Ministry of Culture, which provided land for the institution and continues to extend assistance from time to time.
The visit provided the media delegation an opportunity to understand the preservation and presentation of traditional architecture, indigenous crafts and performing arts, and their relevance for contemporary audiences.
Later the delegation also met Shri Sanjay Ghosh, Deputy Director, CBFC Chennai.
The delegation is led by Shri Shahid Mohammad Lone, Field Publicity Officer (FPO), Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), serving as the Conducting Officer, with Shri Ifham Ul Islam Information Assistant, PIB Srinagar accompanying the delegation.
The media tour of the Srinagar based journalists is also significant since Jammu and Kashmir and Tamil Nadu are states paired together under Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat (EBSB).
