CHENNAI — A 13-member media delegation from Jammu & Kashmir, currently in Tamil Nadu as part of a Press Information Bureau (PIB) Srinagar familiarization tour, took a vibrant sporting detour to witness the live matches of the Tamil Nadu Pickleball Premier League (TNPPL) Season 2 at Chennai’s Express Avenue Mall.
The tournament—running from September 17 to 20 with 12 district franchises, 168 elite athletes, and a ₹30 lakh prize pool backed by popular Kollywood stars—offered visiting journalists a firsthand look at how modern, high-energy indoor sports can captivate urban crowds and build grassroots momentum.
Observing the fast-paced action, the delegation noted that introducing accessible sports like pickleball across Jammu & Kashmir could prove to be a major catalyst for the Union Territory’s sporting landscape. While the Valley is celebrated for cricket, football, and premier winter sports, pickleball requires minimal infrastructure and can easily be adapted for school grounds, municipal indoor halls, and community centers across districts.
The journalists highlighted that because pickleball can be played indoors year-round, it offers an ideal all-weather athletic outlet for Kashmiri youth during the freezing winter months when conventional outdoor grounds become inaccessible. Adopting dynamic franchise formats and community-level leagues in J&K could channel youth potential, foster a robust fitness culture, and pave the way for national-level representation in India’s fastest-growing sport.
