Zojila, June 9 (Daily Roshni) : In a significant announcement aimed at further strengthening connectivity between Kashmir and Ladakh, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday announced the widening of the Srinagar-Gumri road, saying the project will complement the benefits of the strategically important Zojila Tunnel.
Addressing the gathering during the historic breakthrough ceremony of the Zojila Tunnel, Gadkari said the road upgradation project will improve travel, facilitate trade and tourism, and ensure smoother movement of people and goods between the two regions.
The Union Minister emphasized that the widening of the Srinagar-Gumri stretch would work in tandem with the Zojila Tunnel project to provide safer, faster and more efficient connectivity, bringing a transformative change to transportation infrastructure in the region.
The announcement comes at a time when the Zojila Tunnel has achieved a major milestone with the breakthrough of the 13.15-kilometre tunnel, which is expected to provide all-weather connectivity between Kashmir and Ladakh and significantly reduce travel disruptions caused by heavy snowfall and avalanches.
Officials said the road expansion project is expected to further enhance accessibility and support economic growth, tourism and strategic mobility across the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
