Srinagar, June 8:A delegation of journalists representing various newspapers, television channels, and digital media platforms from Jammu and Kashmir departed from Srinagar on Monday for Sonamarg to cover the upcoming visit of Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, to the strategically significant Zojila Tunnel Project.
The visit has been organized by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), Srinagar, which has made travel and accommodation arrangements for invited media personnel. Journalists assembled at the Press Enclave in Srinagar before embarking on their journey towards Sonamarg, the gateway to the Zojila Pass and the tunnel construction site.
The media delegation includes representatives from leading media organizations across the Union Territory, among them Binyamin Shora of Daily Roshni, one of Jammu and Kashmir’s oldest Urdu newspapers. The journalists are scheduled to cover the minister’s inspection of the project and interact with officials associated with the construction of the tunnel.

The journey from Srinagar to Sonamarg offered the visiting media personnel an opportunity to witness the breathtaking natural beauty of the Kashmir Valley. Passing through the picturesque Sindh Valley, the delegation traveled alongside flowing streams, lush green meadows, dense forests, and snow-capped mountain peaks, making the trip both professionally significant and visually memorable.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari is scheduled to visit the Zojila Tunnel Project on June 9 to review the progress of construction and receive detailed briefings from officials regarding the status of the project. The tunnel is considered one of India’s most ambitious infrastructure initiatives and is expected to provide all-weather connectivity between Kashmir and Ladakh, significantly reducing travel disruptions caused by heavy snowfall and harsh weather conditions.
The project is anticipated to boost tourism, strengthen trade and transportation, improve accessibility, and contribute to the socio-economic development of the region. Given its strategic importance, the Zojila Tunnel is widely regarded as a transformative project for both Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
The media delegation is expected to proceed to the project site on Tuesday morning to cover the minister’s inspection and related events, bringing first-hand reports and updates to the public.
